Synopsis
The nation of Wolryeon—a land where customs run deep, with shrines scattered across every province and myriad gods worshipped by its people.
Every citizen of Wolryeon offers devotion to the gods, and when misfortune strikes, they believe it is because their piety was lacking—that an evil spirit has latched onto them.
Hyeon lived alone, bearing the stigma of a woman possessed by demons—her parents and her lover having met untimely, ill-fated deaths. She eked out a wretched existence, too weary to die, when an unexpected guest arrived at her door.
"I am being pursued."
"Find someone else. I am in no position to help."
A man, fleeing from ruffians after crossing the mountains with a cargo of cursed goods, stood before her—and stirred in Hyeon the ghost of her old lover...
But what good was that now?
That lover, too, had long since perished.
She knew that to entangle herself with anyone was to invite horrors far worse than any band of thieves—things that would cling to them like a curse. She wanted no more of that guilt—the guilt of watching someone else die because of her. Coldly, she tried to turn the man away.
Yet he grasped her hand and whispered an offer she could not refuse—one that was nothing short of irresistible.
"Do you not wish to be free from the evil spirits?"
